89 migrants rescued off Sicily

On Jan 8, 2023, the 'Ramform Hyperion' took onboard 89 refugees, including 43 men, 21 women, and 25 children, the youngest under two years old, coming from Afghanistan whom it had encountered en route from Greece to Valletta. The small sailboat with refugees onboard was located early on Jan 8. The crew of the seismic vessel made contact with the Italian Coastguard who instructed them to take them to a location about 20 nautical miles off Sicily, from where the Coastguard would take over. The migrants had been at sea for eight to ten days. The transit to the agreed meeting point offshore Syracuse went smoothly, and so did the transfer of the refugees to the Cpatrol boat 'CP 322' in the late afternoon. The refugees have been been given shelter, food, and water, and all seemed to be in good health.
