Body found in trawl

Fri Apr 05 10:38:41 CEST 2019 Timsen

On April 4, 2019, at 10 a.m. the "Remøy" got a corpse dressed in oil clothes in the trawl in Smutthullet in the Barents Sea which seemed to have been in the water for a long time. Therefore it was not possible to determine neither gender nor age of the deceased. The body was transported to the mainland in Finnmark from where it will be taken on to Tromsø for identification. There was no information that there was someone missing in the area.

In the morning of Sep 25, 2018, the "Remøy" suffered a propulsion loss. The trawler was heading north from Sørarnøya and Lekanger. The failure occurred south of Bodø. The ship managed to return to the port and berthed at the Rønvik industry park short before 11 a.m.

Trawler captain finded with one million Euro

Tue Jul 25 09:13:52 CEST 2017 Timsen

Captain Ketil Ervik was not present in court, but a Norwegian lawyer representing the company and representatives from Norway’s Consulate General were present when the court on July 19 announced its ruling, a fine of €1 million. Additionally, the company that owns the “Remøy” was fined €2 millon. The fine must be paid within 60 days. The original claims against the company amounted to almost €9.3 millions, a sum based on the market price of the shrimps caught by the trawler during its three weeks of fishing in Russian waters this spring. The “Remøy” was arrested by the Russian Coast Guard on May 11 and taken to Murmansk. The crew had to stay on board for some weeks before being allowed to travel back to Norway. The Norwegian Fishery Directorate soon confirmed that an administrative error on the Norwegian side had been the reason for the detention of the «Remøy». The trawler had applied for license to shrimp catch as part of a Norwegian quota in Russian waters. The license was issued, however the documents submitted by the Directorate to the Russian side included mistakes. The Russian prosecutors however still argue that the Norwegian captain failed to comply with Russian regulations and that he was personally responsible of double-checking the permissions issued. After hectic diplomatic efforts, the ship was on June 2 allowed to leave back to Norway after three weeks of arrest in Murmansk.
