Lifeboat assisted in rescue of 156 people from sinking Johanna

Mon Jul 11 12:04:28 CEST 2016 Timsen

The "Uni Oslofjord" was deployed on July 9 after, at 9.22 p.m., the Norwegian flagged charter s/v "Johanna“, 115 gt, (IMO: 8872655; CS: LIIS), had run aground with 149 passengers and a crew of seven on board during a Bluescruise off Nesoddtangen imn the inner Oslo Fjord on its way back to port. The ship suddenly swung around and was breached on a rock 175 meters west of the ferry pt. Nesodden. Immediately large amounts of water flowed in, and the master decided to run the ship onto the shore to avoid a sinking. Life rafts were deployed and the charter guests equipped with life vests. Private boats as well as the lifeboats "Uni Oslofjord“ and "Klaveness Marine“, the ambulance and fire boat "Redningen“ and the police boat "Vekteren“ were on scene as well as a Sea King from Rygge and a flight ambulance from Lørenskog. All passengers were safely disembarked, and at 10.30 p.m. the portside list of the "Johanna" increased, and the ship foundered with the stern, leaving the bow and the superstructure as well as the two masts above water. An oil boom was laid out around the wreck and passing vessels were ordered to decrease speed to keep the half submerged sloop stable. The former fishing vessel had been rebuilt as an excursion boat for up to 260 passengers in 1992 and was operated by the Norway Yacht Charter AS.
