151 migrants rescued off Calais
In the night of May 18, 2024, the CROSS Gris Nez was informed by the Calais port captaincy that a migrant boat was at sea in the Calais sector and deployed the 'Rhône' to check the situation on site. Once in the area, various people on the boat requested assistance and the 'Rhône' successively recovered 15 people. Other people still on board the boat refused the assistance offered by French means. The castaways were dropped off at the port of Calais, where they were taken care of by the land emergency services and the border police.
Two migrant boats received assistance
On April 30, the CROSS Gris-Nez was informed that several migrant boats were in difficulty in the Strait of Pas-de-Calais. On the morning, a boat requested assistance off the coast of Audinghen, and the CROSS Gris-Nez deployed the 'Minck', which rescued two people. Several people still on board the boat refused the assistance offered by French rescue services and continued on their way. The people rescued by the 'Minck' were then dropped off at the dock in Calais. On the evening, the CROSS Gris-Nez engaged the BSAM 'Rhône' to assist a boat in difficulty off the coast of Sangatte, which picked up a family of five people including three children. Several people still on board the boat refused the assistance offered by French means and continued on their way. The people picked up by the 'Rhône' were then dropped off at the dock in Calais.
182 migrants rescued in various operations
In the night of Jan 13 and on Jan 14, the CROSS Gris-Nez was informed that several migrant boats were in difficulty in the Strait of Pas-de-Calais. The 'Abeille Normandie' was deployed to assist a boat off the coast of Ambleteuse with 58 people on board. They were transferred to Boulogne-sur-Mer. The 'Rhône' of the French Navy rescued 20 people from a boat off the coast of Pointe aux Oies. Several people still on board the boat refused the assistance offered. Given the risks in the case of restrictive actions, the choice was made to let them continue their voyage . In connection with the CROSS Gris Nez, surveillance was maintained on the boat by on-site resources. The people picked up by the 'Rhône' were dropped off at the quay in Boulogne-sur-Mer in the morning of Jan 14. In the morning of Jan 14, the 'Apollo Moon' assisted a migrant boat in difficulty off Pointe aux Oies. Nine castaways were taken care of by the crew of the 'Apollo Moon'. The boat was then assisted by the 'Rhône' which in turn rescued 34 people. The castaways recovered by the 'Apollo Moon' were dropped off at the quay in Calais and those by the 'Rhône' at Boulogne-sur-Mer. In the run of the day, the 'Abeille Normandie' was depolyed to a boat which was in difficulty off the coast of Neufchatel-Hardelot and initially rescued 33 people. Several people still on board the boat refused the assistance offered by French means and continued on their way. In conjunction with the CROSS Gris-Nez, the 'Abeille Normandie' continued to monitor this boat which stopped a second time. 26 shipwrecked people were then rescued by the 'Abeille Normandie'. The 59 castaways were then deposited at the dock in Boulogne-sur-Mer. The 182 shipwrecked people from the various operations were taken care of by the shore based srescue services and the border police.
