Two VLCC boarded for illegal STS transfer

Thu Oct 26 21:25:36 CEST 2023 Timsen

The Malaysian Coastguard has boarded and detained the 'Ocean Hermana' along with the tanker 'Artemis III', both being accused of carrying out an unauthorised ship-to-ship transfer of oil off the country's coastline, 32,1 nautical miles east of Tanjung Sedili. The two ships were spotted by a MMEA patrol boat which suspected them for carrying out the STS activities at 12.35 p.m. Both ships refused to cooperate in allowing MMEA officers to go onboard, which led to authorities to perform a forced boarding by helicopter. The 'Ocean Hermana' had 26 crew members onboard, aged between 23 to 54 while the 'ARtemis III' was manned by 26 crew members, aged 21 to 51 years old. The captains of the ships involved failed to present any authorisation documents for the activities being conducted. The case was to be investigated under Section 491B (1) (K) of the Merchant Shipping Ordinance 1952, Section 491B (1) (L) of the Merchant Shipping Ordinance 1952 and Section 186 of the Penal Code. The captains of both ships were also being investigated under Section 186 of the Penal Code for obstructing the duty of a public servant, which carries a maximum jail sentence of two years or a fine of up to MYR 10,000 or both if found guilty. Coast Guard nabs $1 million in cocaine off Galveston

Thu Dec 27 10:14:53 CET 2012 arnekiel

Coast Guard personnel were joined by other federal agencies Christmas Eve (December 24, 2012) to remove more than 85 pounds of cocaine from a ship off the Galveston coast. The crew of the 900-foot oil tanker Godavari Spirit notified Coast Guard Sector Houston-Galveston that they located a suspicious package hidden aboard their ship and suspected it to contain narcotics. A joint boarding team consisting of the Coast Guard Investigative Service, Customs and Border Protection Office of Air and Marine, Homeland Security Investigations and the Drug Enforcement Administration, were taken 70 miles offshore Monday aboard the U.S. Coast Guard Cutter Manowar, to board the tanker and locate the cocaine.
