Tue Jan 03 21:09:55 CET 2017 Timsen

The "Rio Tagus" should leave Sète at the end of January to be dismantled in Barcelona. The vessel was being stuck in the port of Sète since October 2010 due to safety defiencies and is in a fragile state now. 90 % of pollutants have been removed prior to the towage which will be undertaken only in calm weather. The ship will be dismantled by the Spanish company Varadero who bought the ship in Oct 2016 for 11,000 Euros. Rio Tago ready to be towed to breakers in Barcelona

Thu Dec 15 11:17:36 CET 2016 Timsen

The "Rio Tagus", moored at the Paul-Riquet dock in the Cayenne basin in the port of Sète (Hérault), is now ready to leave the port for the last voyage, destined for breakers in Barcelona. The vessel has been almost completely depolluted during the last week, after it was sold at auction to a Catalan company in October for 11,000 Euros. The ship was emptied of toxic products still on board such as oils, fuel, stagnant water in the holds and ballast tanks. The operation was at the charge of the port of Sète anc cost nearly 10,000 Euros. There were only a few signatures left on the validation file to tow the cargo ship from Sète to Barcelona, and the files were being processed. It was very likely that the ship would leave end of January 2017.
