Tug located empty boat of missing Oceanside man

Tue Sep 10 22:46:34 CEST 2013 Timsen

U.S. Coast Guard crews were searching from Oceanside to La Jolla for the 53-year-old Oceanside man who went missing with his boat on Sep 9, 2013. The "Robyn J" located the Lucky Dog with its engine engaged at 6:26 a.m. on Sep 10 approximately 10 miles northwest of La Jolla. A Coast Guard Station San Diego 45-foot Response Boat crew was dispatched to the vessel, came alongside the "Lucky Dog" and was able to board the boat and stop the engine. The Coast Guard boat crew towed the "Lucky Dog" toward Oceanside and transferred the tow to Oceanside Harbor Police at 9:55 a.m. The Harbor Police towed the vessel to Del Mar Boat Basin. As of 12:30 p.m., two Jayhawk helicopter crews, the 45-foot boat crew, and the Coast Guard Cutter Edisto were searching. A Customs and Border Protection Multi-role Enforcement Aircraft also joined the search, and the Oceanside Harbor Police conducted both maritime and shoreline searches. An MH-65 Dolphin helicopter from Coast Guard Air Station Los Angeles is scheduled to relieve one of the Jayhawk helicopters, and the Coast Guard Cutter Sea Otter is also preparing to get underway to assist in the search for the missing man.
