80 migrants assisted off La Restinga
On the early morning of Dec 10, a cayuco was located 1.5 nautical miles south of La Restinga. The CCS Tenerife of Salvamento Marítimo mobilized the 'Salvamar Acrux' and LS 'Mike 02' of the Cruz Roja to the scene. The 'Salvamar Acrux' escorted the boat to the port of La Restinga, where the 80 sub-Saharan people on board, among them 26 women and four minors, were safely dismebarked. Two SAR boats responded to distressed canoe with 121 people on board
The emergency services received a phone call from a canoe on Dec 3, 2024. The 'Salvamar Adhara' was mobilized to assist by Salvamento Marítimo and located the boat five nautical miles southwest of El Hierro. The crew rescued the 121 people on board and transferred them to La Restinga. The 'Salvamar Acrux', which also responded, took the empty canoe in tow and pulled it to the port too. 273 boat people rescued in two missions
The m/v 'Tony Smith' spotted a cayuco on Nov 30, 2024, about 30 nautical miles off La Restinga. The 'Salvamar Adhara' was tasked to assist by Salvamento Marítimo. The crew located the boat, which had lost engine power, and rescued the 216 people on board. Before, the Guardia Civil had located a boat about 10 nautical miles from El Hierro, which was escorted to the port by the 'Salvamar Acrux', The 57 people on board were cared for by the Cruz Roja.
