SAR boat involved in fire fighting on blazing trawlers
On May 5, 2020, at 7 a.m. three trawlers, the 'Artur Paula', 'María Eduardo' and 'Cortés Canales', which were docked at the fishing pier in the marina of Isla Cristina caught fire, two of them were gutted. The fire started afer an explosion on the 'Artur Paula' which could be separated before more ships were affected and towed out on the Ría del Carreras where it sank engulfed in flames. The 'Mará Eduardo' was heavily damaged, but remained afloat. Three crew members were injured, one man, aged 48, ,had burns at 25% of his body and was taken to a hospital in Seville, while another, 42, with minor injuries, was initially transferred to the Infanta Elena de Huelva but he then treated at the Virgen del Rocío hospital in Seville, being stable. The third did not need assistance because the injuries were slight. The fire brigade from Alosno and Ayamonte attended with nine vehicles and 12 fire fighters, the Civil Guard, fire boat ‘Helena‘ and the ‘Salvamar Alkaid‘ were called to tackle the blaze, but both ships were gutted.
