SAR boat called to sinking fishing vessel in Ribadesella
On July 25, 2023, the 'Salvamar Castor' was mobilized after the fishing vessel "Biempica" started sinking in Ribadesella at the fishing dock. Besides Salvamento Marítimo, a land patrol of the Civil Guard, the firefighters and the Ribadesella Police were on scene. Oil barriers were laid out to prevent the danger of fuel contaminating both the estuary as to the beach of Santa Marina, located a few meters away. On July 30 the firefighters placed a second barrier to reinforce security. The owner of the boat, with the help of private companies, proceeded to raise the wreck with the help of a crane on Aug 1. After the wreck was back on the surface, it was towed by another ship to the ramp of the Riosellano marina where it was brought ashore to be checked and repaired. When the ship sank, it had been on leave for two months at the dock after the retirement of the owner and his son's job change.
