Eight migrants rescued off Cabo de Gata
On the early morning of July 29, the 'Salvamar Spica' rescued eight migrants of North African origin, including a woman and three minors, who were sailing on a small boat, which was located 28 nautical miles southeast of Cabo de Gata in the Alboran Sea. The boat was spotted by the crew of the ferry 'Kalliste' (IMO: 9050618), sailing between Nador and Marseille, which notified the CCS of Salvamento Marítimo in Almería. Following the alert, the 'Salvamar Spica' was mobilized and proceeded to rescue the occupants. The migrants were taken on board and disembarked at around 2:23 a.m. in the port of Almería, where they were treated by a humanitarian assistance team. 28 migrants rescued off Almeriía
On the morning of July 8, the 'Salvamar Spica' rescued 28 North Africans from two stranded boats off Almería. Among the occupants were (one woman and three children. The first boat was located four nautical miles east of Genoveses. The second one was 13 nautical miles southeast of Gata. It was almost 5 a.m. when the disembarkation began in the Port of Almería. SAR boat responded to blazing fishing vessel
On May 16, the Spanish flagged fishing vessel 'El Ponce' caught fire near Almerimar with three crew members on board. The fishermen were rescued by another fishing vessel, the 'Matillas VI', and taken to the marina. The CCS Almería of Salvamento Marítimo mobilized the 'Salvamar Spica', which has confirmed the sinking of the vessel and reported that therewere no signs of pollution in the area.
