Ship missing since three weeks
The 'Santa Amaro II' with five crew members on board has been missing since three weeks. The ship had set sail from the Las Piedras pier in Punto Fijo, Paraguaná Peninsula, on May 4, 2022 in the afternoon. Four hours later, the crew reported a damage to the engine and turned off the engines. Since then communication with the ship has been lost. The relatives staged a protest in the afternoon of May 18, due to the lack of information and results by the authorities regarding the SAR efforts. The thesis of a hijack was also handled by the families of the crew in the face of no evidence of a sinking. The crew of the vessel 'Zorro Viejo' continued an own search in the surrounding waters of the Falcón state.
