Explosion injured five workers

Wed Nov 04 12:30:07 CET 2020 Timsen

On Nov 3, 2020, at 10 a.m. an explosion occurred in a cargo tank of the 'Sri Asih' during a routine maintenance at the Sefine Shipyard, Yalova. The accident occurred in one of the non-working sloop tanks of the vessel. Although there was no work in or near the tank in which the explosion occurred, due to the severity of the explosion, five workers who were busy with a work permit in another part of the vessel were injured. As soon as the accident was reported, fully equipped health and fire teams arrived. The scene of the accident was secured and the personnel on board was evacuated. The injured workers were transferred to Yalova State Hospital and taken under precautionary observation. All were discharged by the hospital the same night. Following the evaluation and examination of the scene of the accident, work on board was allowed to begin again. The cause of the explosion and the extent of damage were unknown at this stage. The Harbour Master and Public Prosecutor have placed an Incident Investigation file in order to ascertain the cause of the incident and to assess the extent of damage.
