Vessel detained after being towed to Vigo

Mon Feb 20 11:13:22 CET 2017 Timsen

The Maritime Captaincy had detained the "Alsterstern" in Vigo until inumerous deficiencies detected on board and posing a danger to the safety of the ship's navigation and safety of future hydrocarbon cargo operations as well as for the marine environment or its crew on board have been rectified. The tanker had been towed to port on Feb 2, where engine repairs were carried out after the ship had gone adrift 70 miles west of Ons. But aninspection carried out by technicians of the Maritime Captaincy of Vigo has detected numerous security deficiencies last week. The ship was unloaded and free of toxic or dangerous gases. The captain, Daniel Blanchard from Canada, was confident that the technical deficiencies would be remedied soon, but the repairs of faults discovered by the MOU inspectors were expected to keep him at least one more week at the Areal pier. Tanker disabled off Vigo

Thu Feb 02 09:06:06 CET 2017 Timsen

Enroute from Las Palmas to Lituania, the unloaded "Alsterstern" suffered engine damage on Feb 1, 2017, at 4.30 p.m. and went adrift 70 miles off the Ons islands. The "Don Inda" (IMO: 9338010) of Sasemar was mobilized from the port of Corcubión by Salvamento Maritomo to assist the vessel. The offshore tug "Ría de Vigo" was called from El Ferrol and took the tanker with its crew of 22 in tow in poor weather with heavy rain falls to Vigo, ETA Feb 2. The convoy reached the port at 3.30 p.m. where the tanker was berthed at the Muelle del Arenal.
