Water ingress on the Rhine

In the evening of Apr 28, 2017, the "Siguenza", 1304 ts (EU-No.: 06003252), suffered water ingress and went down by the bow on the Rhine enroute towards Kehl. The ship was moored in Mannheim and could be stabilized and some 10 tons water pumped out by the fire boat "Metropolregion". The crew of two was not injured. It was found out that the ship was very deep in the water with a cargo of 1.200 tons fertilizer so that the swell poured into the foreship through the openings of the anchor chains and a hole in which a flag mast should have stuck but had been removed some months ago. Also other doors and hatches were found by the police which had not been properly sealed. On scene were forces of the water police Ludwigshafen, the fire rescue Mannheim and the Red Cross Mannheim. The police Mannheim launched an investigation against the 45-year old master for a small oil spill caused by the incident. On Apr 29 the ship was allowed to continue the voyage from Antwerp to Strasbourg.
