Tug kept from sinking after collision in Esbjerg

Thu Jun 28 19:15:04 CEST 2012 Timsen

In the morning of June 28, 2012, the "Skuld" was in collision with a drilling rig while towing it into the port of Esbjerg. The tug suffered a large leak below the waterline, and just a quick response from two other tugs, the "Ems" and "Elbe", prevented that the "Skuld" sank. The accident occurred when the tug's main engine conked out, then the "Skuld" hit the rig. The two other tugs involved in the task quickly pulled the "Skuld" to the quay where the fire department was ready with powerful pumps. The tugs went alongsise the "Skuld" which was severely listing to starboard to stabilize it. Booms were laid out around the tug, and even if gas oil leaked out from the vessel, it was expected that the diesel quickly evaporated. Divers of BB Towing and Diving, Esbjerg, which was on scene with the "Diver Master", went down in an attempt to patch the leak.
