RIB towed sinking fishing vessel to shallow
On Nov 18, 2016, the "Havgutt T - 112 KN" suffered water ingress in the engine room between Musvær and Kvaløya and started to sink. The skipper radioed a Mayday and fired distress flares. Another fishing vessel headed towards the casualty and was joined by a RIB on its way which was first on Scene and managed to take the "Havgutt" in tow. The skipper had put on a survival suit and was taken on board the RIB. His ship was threatened to sink on a water depth of 100 meters. The RIB started to pull it towards more shallow water. The "Havgutt" could be towed over a distance of 1,5 Kilometers though the rope broke several times. When approaching Musvær the water ingress increased so the boat was grounded on a rocky shallow where it finally sank with parts of the stern still showing above water.
