Tanker caught fire during loading operations

Fri May 25 10:43:44 CEST 2018 Timsen

Aboard the "Srikandi 511", which was docked in Banjamarsin on the River Barito in the Kuin Cerucuk Village District in South Kalimantan, a fire broke out on May 25, 2018, at 1.30 a.m. The accident happened when loading 4.000 tons of diesel fuel at dock 3 of the Banjarmasin fuel terminal. It quickly spread from tank 3 to tank 4. Dozens of fire fighters were alerted and managed to get the blaze under control within 2,5 hours. Burning oil had leaked from the tanker into river and drifted downstream some hundred meter wide. At least four Pertamina tankers, among them the "Gonaya III", "Najeha" and "AJB 03", which were moored at the SADP base downstream from the tanker were slightly damaged by the burning fuel on the water. They could later be docked again. They unleashed the anchor ropes to escape and drifted in the middle of the Baritoriver. two tugboats and a floating bunker station. Also the tugs "Mandiri Berau" and "Rimau 208" were affected. The "Srikandi 511" itself was heavily damaged. The 18 persons aboard the "Srikandi 511", consisting of 16 crew members and two guards, as well as a surveyor survived the incident shaken, but unharmed. They were then taken to the Polair Banjarmasin Police Headquarters.
