STARLIGHT 9279484

Thu Nov 04 10:52:25 CET 2010 Timsen

The "Star of Nippon" being suspected of having run over the f/v "Hsing Lai Fa", was intercepted off the Penghu Islands on Nov 3, 2010 by a marine squad consisting of a frigate and three patrol boats, mobilized by the Coastal Patrol Directorate General, 102 nautical miles in waters off southwest Taiwan. They caught it near the Penghu Islands in the Taiwan Strait. Inspectors of the agency identified fresh marks on the freighter, which could have been caused by collision with another boat. This evidence was enough to persuade the freighter's captain to admit the charge of hit-and-run. The freighter's owner has agreed to compensate the victim for all damages. The skipper 307-ton Siaoliouciou-registered f/v "Hsing Lai Fa" had reported the accident after being rescued by another f/v 12.2 nautical miles southwest of Siaoliouciou, an islet off Pingtung County, southern Taiwan. Suffering from cuts and scratches, he said he fell into the water when his boat flipped over after being hit by the "Star of Nippon".
