In the evening of Sep 8, 2012, the „Storesund“ had to slip the cable of the cargo m/v „Anne Birthe“ (IMO: 5389396) which had suffered water ingress at 8.10 p.m. during its final voyage from Cpenhagen, where it had been in use as a club ship the recent years and had sailed at 7.30 a.m., to breakers in Grenaa. The ship had started to list, and a plane still tried to support the crew with a mobile dewatering pump, but in vain. At 9.30 p.m. the tow men of the runnercrew had to be taken off, and at 10.40 p.m. the ship capsized and sank on a water depth of 22 metres south of Hesselø. The wrecksite was monitored for possible oil spills, but none were remarked until Sep 9. There was no decision about a salvage, the wreck did not hamper ship traffic.
