The announcement follows the company’s financial results for the second quarter of this year, which show that Tallink Grupp and its subsidiaries recorded an 83.2 percent increase in their net income, which stood at EUR 17.9 million (USD 21.01 million), compared to EUR 9.8 million (USD 11.5 million) seen in the same period a year earlier.
Passengers mustered after fire in crew cabin
A small fire that broke out on the "Atlantic Vision" sailing from North Sydney to Argentia, N.L. and caused minimal damage to a crew cabin in the evening of July 1, 2016. Crewmembers of the ferry on noticed smoke coming from a portable refrigerator and acted quickly to extinguish the flames. The approximately 250 passengers and 100 crew onboard were mustered to a lounge area on the vessel to await the all clear from the crew putting out the fire. The passengers remained in this area as a precaution for about an hour. During that time they were kept up-to-date on what was happening and also received a visit from the ferry’s captain to reassure them. Once the fire was contained the ship continue on to Argentia. The fire occurred on Deck 9, an area of the vessel where many crew cabins are located but there are passenger cabins as well. Once the situation was under control the crew was allowed to return to their bunks. However, passengers boarding on that deck were relocated elsewhere on the ferry. The "Atlantic Vision" arrived on schedule at Argentia in the morning of July 2 and was expected to leave Newfoundland for North Sydney at 5 p.m. The investigation into the fire continued over the next few days.
Strong winds delayed arrival in North Sydney
Docking of the "Atlantic Vision" in Placentia Bay was delayed by strong winds. The ferry was scheduled to arrive in Argentia at 10:00 a.m. on July 31 after leaving North Sydney at 5:00 p.m. on July 30. The company had hoped to dock in the afternoon but that didn't happen. An attempt to dock was made at around 6:30 p.m., but winds picked up before the ship was able to make it far enough into the bay. Another docking attempt at 8 p.m. was successful. Stranded passengers were being offered a free meal this evening by Marine Atlantic as an acknowledgement of the trouble caused to schedules by the high winds.Upload News
