Medevac off Barfleur

Fri Oct 09 19:24:10 CEST 2020 Timsen

A crew member of the 'Thalassa' suffered a head injury on Oct 9, 2020, 36 miles NE of Barfleur. At 12:30 p.m. the CROSS Jobourg was alerted by the Toulouse maritime medical consultation center and coordinated with the SAMU in Le Havre. It was decided to proceed with the medical evacuation of the sailor to the Caen University Hospital. Due to the vessel's remoteness from the coast, the CROSS deployed a Cayman helicopter of the Navy base at Maupertus. At 1:10 p.m., the victim was hoisted aboard the helicopter and then dropped off at the Caen-Carpiquet airport where he was picked up at 1:40 p.m. by a team from the SMUR mobile emergency and resuscitation service and transported to the Caen hospital.

‘Thalassa’ modernisation by Piriou Naval Services

Wed Jan 11 19:28:11 CET 2017 arnekiel

11 Jan 2017 - Piriou Naval Services, the French branch of the Piriou group for Repair and Services, has won the European bid Ifremer launched in June 2016 for the modernisation of its oceanographic research vessel ‘Thalassa’. Delivered in 1995, Thalassa is an oceanographic vessel mainly dedicated to public service missions relating to fisheries research and physical oceanography. Thalassa can deploy the teleoperated ROV system Victor 6000, thus partly answering requests for deep environment missions. The vessel will undergo a full mid-life maintenance and refit programme in acquiring equipment that will widen the spectrum of its missions and allow it to fully carry out environmental and geoscientific missions. - See more at: http://www.maritimejournal.com/news101/vessel-build-and-maintenance/vessel-repair-and-maintenance/thalassa-modernisation#sthash.6ADNclmJ.dpuf
