Oil supply vessel to serve as emergency tug

Wed Mar 28 19:03:03 CEST 2012 Timsen

The "Grampian Frontier" has been earmarked to replace the emergency tug serving Orkney and Shetland. The UK Government is in talks with oil industry bosses to replace the "Anglian Sovereign", the last emergency towing vessel operating in Scotland. The proposal went before Shetland Islands Council on Mar 28, 2012. The "Grampian Frontier" would be stationed at the Schiehallion oil field and would be able to respond to any incident in Orkney or Shetland within a 12-hour time frame. The crew will need to undergo training before the vessel takes on an emergency tug role. It is hoped that the agreement between the Treasury and Oil and Gas UK will be drawn up by the end of the week.

Grampian Glen recovered lost buoy in rig exclusion zone

Mon Sep 12 09:11:10 CEST 2011 Timsen

A large oceanographic data buoy from Newfoundland has been found off Shetland after it went missing during Hurricane Igor in September 2010. On Sep 10, 2011, Shetland Coastguard was contacted by the "Grampian Frontier" reporting that they had recovered the large yellow one tonne bouy which had floated into the 500 metre exclusion zone around the Clair Platform. Shetland Coastguard passed on serial numbers found on the equipment to the Maritime and Coastguard Agencys Receiver of Wreck who was then able to contact the owners of the buoy. The one tonne buoy is now ashore in Scalloway harbour awaiting collection by the owners.
