Oil spill in Brunsbüttel

Wed May 01 00:11:35 CEST 2019 Timsen

In the afternoon of April 29, 2019, at 2 p.m. an oil spill occurred during the loading process of the "Pia", 1642 ts (EU-No.: 04809360), at pier IV in the oil port of Brunsbüttel. Diesel fuel was spilt into the port waters arrives. The fire department was deployed and laid out oil booms. On the whole 450 tons of diesel fuel were loaded onto the shop. At the start of the operation about 0,2 tons diesel fuel spewed from the cargo tanks through the unclosed compressed air line onto the main deck of the ship. From there the fuel leaked from the foredeck towards the edge of the bridge and into the basin. The wind drifted the oil in the Kiel Canal. The leakage was stopped by the shutdown of the feed pump. The "Pia" left Brunsbüttel at 10 p.m. and headed to Scharnebeck, where she arrived on April 30 at 6.15 a.m. on its way to Magdeburg, ETA May 2.
