Damaged ship towed to Aliaga for recycling
The 'Tokay Akar' which had dragged anchor and drifted aground at Samsun on Aug 14, 2016 in stormy weather and had suffered serious structural damages to the port side bottom section and the bulbous bow, was sold to breakers in Aliaga as of June 18, 2021 due to expensive repairs and the vessel's age.. The tug 'Ayaz Bey' (IMO: 7531670) was appointed to tow the vessel from Samsun to Aliaga. The towage operation commenced on June 24, and it reached the scrap yard on June 30 at 2 a.m.
