Attackers defended by armed guards off Somalia

Sun Mar 18 12:41:59 CET 2012 Timsen

Pirates in the night of Mar 17, 2012, tried to hijack the "Trans Catalonia" which was underway from Changzhou to Russia laden with palm oil, off the coast of Somalia. Security guards fired on board and chased the attackers. The pirates opened fire first, but the ship's armed guards fired back and scared off the attackers, and thus averted the attack. No one of the crew was hurt. The vessel has a crew of 20 from Sweden, Poland and Romania, plus security guards.
