Disabled ship abandoned and towed to anchorage
On Sep 24, 2022, at 11.30 p.m. UTC the 'China Board 1' suffered an engine malfunction and was disabled and adrift in the Gulf of Tonkin north of Da Nang, en route from Vung Tau to Macau. The owner tried to assign a tug, but the salvage attempt failed in the face of the approaching typhoon Noru. Thereupon the owner ordered the 14 crew members, among them five Vietnamese and nine Chinese nationals, to abandoned the ship. They have been rescued by the Vietnamese SAR ship 'SAR 412' in the afternoon of Sep 26 and were taken to Chan May port, north of Da Nang. The 'China Board 1' was taken in tow by tug 'Chan May 02' on Sep 26 and towed out of the area where it originally was found. It was anchored approximately five kilometres from the coast of Thua Thien Hue, Vietnam. The Captain also directed to close all the valves of the fuel tanks of the ship.
