Officer of tanker allowed to sign off after months aboard tanker
K.M. Gireesh Kumar, the Second Officer of the 'Ulrijken' was allowed to sign off at Chennai port on April 25, 2020. The sailor has been working aboard the tanker for an extended stint of four months due to the Covid-19 pandemic after his six-month contract had ended in January. The man had requested help at the Director General of Shipping to sign him off at Chennai port where the vessel was currently docked. Following the intervention of the Director General of Shipping and assistance from port authorities, including Port Health Officer Senthilnathan and Deputy Port Conservator Sitaram Parhi, the man was allowed to sign off.
