Barge in collision with rowing boat

On May 5, 2021, at noon, the 'Vagari' was in collision with the rowing boat w'Floris IV' with a crew of five from the Pelargos Student Rowing Association at the Dillenburglaan in Rijswijkon the border between Rijswijk and Voorburg. The sportsmen jumped into the water and had to be checked with symptoms of hypothermia afterwards. The master of the barge had just passed underneath the Geest bridge and therefore had no view of the rowing boat. The rowers saw the freighter coming. The students tried to steer their boat to the side, but were blown back to the middle of the Trekvliet by the strong wind. Bystanders tried to warn the master of the 'Vagari', but he was unable to stop his ship in time. The five rowers therefore decided to jump out of their rowing boat in the middle of the water. Four students were able to reach the shore without any problems, but one of the students was almost run over by the freighter. By dropping herself off at the last minute, however, she too was able to reach the shore safely. The fire brigade was alerted and took care of the students. An ambulance also came, but no one had to be admitted to the hospital. Their boat was drifting half submerged in the water. The 'Vagari' remained undamaged, but was ordered to berth on the spot for the time being so that the police could investigate further.
