Captain died in shipwreck off Pizarro
Following the sinking of the 'Verde Öuna' on June 16, 2025, in the waters of the Colombian Pacific and the discovery of the lifeless body, the General Maritime Directorate (Dimar) announced that, in accordance with its jurisdictional powers, it will conduct the respective investigation into the accident to establish the circumstances of the time, manner, and place in which the events occurred and determine possible responsibilities. The 'Verde Luna' had departed from Buenaventura ,with seven people on board: six crew members and one observer. for fishing on June 7, and sank between Pizarro and Purricha in the department of Chocó. One of the crew members was evacuated days earlier due to medical conditions, The Buenaventura Coast Guard Station reported the shipwreck of the vessel off Pizarro, Chocó. The Buenaventura Port Authority's Maritime Traffic Control and Surveillance Station immediately contacted the vessel's owner, who confirmed the accident and reported that two of the occupants were hospitalized, while the other four remained missing. During the SAR operation, communication was established with a citizen in Pizarro, who reported that five people had been found by the local community on the municipality's beach. Among them was the observer, who suffered a serious injury to one of his lower extremities. The vessel's captain was found dead. He was taken along with two of the injured to a medical center in Buenaventura.
