Fire on tanker extinguished after two hours

The "Volgoneft 215" caught fire while at the Kanonersky shipyard in St. Petersburg on Mar 6, 2012, at 10.30 a.m. The tanker was undergoing repairs in the cargo tanks when a worker spilled 150 liters of fuel oil on the deck. A 70 square meter section of the deck caught fire. Firefighters were called to the site and were able to extinguish the blaze after two hours. No reports of injuries. According to Authorities investigating the accident the workers had violated safety regulations during the repairs. Lock allision

On May 28 at 7.38 p.m. the "Volgoneft 215" allided with the lock’s construction in the Volgo-Baltic Canal Lock 4 enroute from Yaroslavl to St. Petersburg with 4633 mt heavy oil on board. The lock’s construction was damaged, the tanker holed in the bow portside area above the waterline. The tanks were not damaged, no spill reported. The vessel left the lock under own power and anchored in the Belousovskoye Basin at 10.40 p.m. for inspections. odin.tc
