Dredger detained for illegal dumping
An interceptor boat of the Indonesian Navy on April 8, 2019, dseized the "VOox Maxima" in Galang island waters, Riau islands, south of the Singapore Strait, for alleged waste dumping without clarifying the character of dumped waste, and its’ quantity. The dredger has been working in South East China sea waters for years, managed by a Singaporean company. The Dutch captain and 15 crew members of Dutch, Ukrainian, Polish and Filipino nationalities were detained with the captain facing a 2-year imprisonment or a fine of $21,000.
Vox Máxima starts expansion works off Jakarta, Indonesia
On the order of the Van Oord – Boskalis joint venture, one of Van Oord’s largest trailing suction hopper dredgers, Vox Máxima, has started the dredging work for the creation of Pluit City, an artificial island in the bay of Jakarta, Indonesia. The growth of Jakarta’s population by 800,000 people per year has resulted in ambitious plans for the further development of Jakarta Bay. Trailing suction hopper dredgers are now dredging the sand that will be used to create the new island of Pluit City. The contract includes the installation of stone revetment protection and soil improvement work as well as the dredging services. The project will be delivered in 2018.Over the last few days, a delegation from Jakarta under the leadership of governor Basuki Tjahaja Purnama has been visiting Rotterdam. The party has taken the opportunity of their visit to learn about the development of the city of Rotterdam. The experience gained from unique land reclamation projects, such as Maasvlakte 2, will also contribute to Jakarta’s city planning. Source: Van Oord

This award is presented to the manufacturer of a vessel which is designed, built and completed in The Netherlands, and which distinguishes itself in the areas of innovation, the environment, safety and value for money.
