Offshore service ship took in water

The "Wind Transfer" which was servicing wind turbines off Blyth starting to take on water in the morning of Jan 20, 2019. The catamaran ship had suffered gearbox problems, resulting in water flooding the engine room. The two crew members on board immediately sent out a mayday message to the HM Coastguard 2,5 miles north-east of Blyth just before 10.15 a.m. Both Blyth RNLI lifeboats, the Newbiggin lifeboat and the Blyth Coastguard were called out. The lifeboats put pumps on board but could not stem the inflow of water. The Blyth RNLI lifeboat escorted the vessel into the harbour.
