Cargo ship sank, crew rescued
The "Ying Hai" sank in the morning of Oct 3, 2018, in position 22 45 N 119 10 E, south of Penghu Archipelago in the Taiwan Strait. A navigational warning was issued due to floating containers in the area. In the morning of Oct 2, the ship, being loaded with containers, had developed severe starboard list in the Penghu archipelago off southern Taiwan after several containers shifted, some went overboard, in rough sea conditions. The Taiwan SAR Agency was alerted at 10 a.m., and an SAR operation was launched. All nine crew were rescued by lifeboats after attempts to take the ship in tow failed, and the list meanwhile increased to 30 degrees. The ship was en route from Kaohsiung to Busan.
