Collision off Amrum

Thu Mar 15 12:33:15 CET 2012 Timsen

On Mar 14 at 4.30 p.m. the "Pieter Dion" was in collision with the German f/v "Paloma G" 40 miles west of Amrum. The police boat "Bad Bramstedt" was sent to the accident site. The ship was on scene at 6.30 p.m. Investigations showed that the wheelhouse and mast of the German ship were damaged.

Trawler saved from surf

Wed Sep 14 12:13:07 CEST 2011 Timsen

On Sep 13, 2011, around 9 a.m. the lifeboats "Koning Willem I" and "Maria Paula" were called to assist the "Pieter Dion - ZK12" which had run aground near the beach of Schiermonnikoog in the vicinity of the lighthouse. Strong northwest winds caused a big swell, which made the work of the lifeboat quite difficult. The vessel was in the surf, while the nets drifting around it complicated the matter. Then the towing cable of the "Koning Willem I" was too heavy. Finally a thinner line from the trawler could be connected. The trawler was refloated, but suffered significant damage to the nets a.o. However, the ship could continue with own power.
