Flows have begun again from Venezuela, with Wood Mackenzie tracking renewed crude deliveries to US refineries through September 2025. Venezuelan heavy and medium grades including Boscan (10.1° API), Merey (18° API), and Hamaca (26° API) are flowing to key Gulf Coast facilities, marking a significant shift in regional crude supply dynamics after extended disruptions.
PADD 3 refineries are capturing the majority of these volumes, several facilities taking volumes of Venezuelan crude. The heavy sour Boscan crude was the most popular shipment, commanding the largest share of deliveries. West Coast refineries including Chevron Richmond and Valero Benicia also received cargoes from the South American producer.
The resumption of Venezuelan flows provides critical heavy crude optionality for US Gulf Coast refiners configured to process high-sulphur feedstocks. With Venezuelan crude traditionally offering attractive economics versus other heavy sour alternatives.
