Hazmat accident in Hamburg

Wed Sep 04 11:29:38 CEST 2019 Timsen

On Sep 2, 2019, at 7 p.m. an unknown liquid leaked out of a container aboard the "Hyundai Dynasty" which had berthed at the Predöhl Quay in Hamburg at 1.20 a.m. As it was thought that it could be a hazardous substance, the fire rescue was alerted to the Waltershof Dam. The affected container was taken from the ship in a special hazardous goods box and opened by a reconnaissance troop with breathing protection and special protective suits. A substance sampling and analysis by the environmental service of the fire brigade Hamburg showed that the substance was gear oil. Spilled liquied was sprinkled with binders and the site was then handed over to the water police. Nobody was injured. The Department of the Environment and Energy was informed. In total, around 90 forces of fire brigade and volunteer fire brigade teams were deployed on site. The container ship left the port again on Sep 3 at 7.10 p.m., bound to Southampton, England, ETA Sep 5, 3 a.m.
