LPG-tanker suspected to have cut internet cable

Thu Dec 01 08:50:32 CET 2016 Timsen

The "King Arthur" was suspected to have cut the three main internet cables to the Channel Islands on the seabed in the English Channel on Nov 28, 2016, by dragging itss anchor. Repair work on the first cable was expected to take a week. Broadband speeds were expected to be slower during peak times. A second ship was on the way from France to repair the second cable and the third cable will be repaired after that. Jersey's Coastguard announced an investigation to see if the ship dropped anchor in a banned area. The owners of the tanker were investigating whether it was their ship that caused the problem. On Nov 30 the tanker was docked at Terneuzen, leaving bound to Augusta on Dec 1.
