RNLI escorted distressed yacht to Leith

Tue Aug 19 12:41:37 CEST 2014 Timsen

The RNLI-boat from Eyemouth was dispatched to the “Rani” on Aug 17 at 4 a.m. after she had suffered water ingress 133 miles east of the port. The yacht, with four people on board, required immediate assistance as it was taking on water and its pumps could not cope. The Eyemouth lifeboat arrived on scene shortly afterwards and made ready its salvage pump, however, the RAF Sea King helicopter from RAF Boulmer had already transferred two pumps down to the yacht, both of which managed to cope with the ingress of water. Eyemouth lifeboat then stood by the "Rani" as it made its way towards the Firth of Forth where its owners had arranged to go alongside in Leith docks for repairs. Once Eyemouth lifeboat and the yacht were to the east of Dunbar, Dunbar lifeboat then took over the escort of the yacht towards Leith.
