River cruise ship back in service after collision on the Rhine

Thu Aug 20 12:25:07 CEST 2015 Timsen

In the foremidday of Aug 17, 2015, at 10.20 a.m. the "Arosa Aqua", 1824 ts (EU-No.: 04807500), enroute from Amsterdam to Basel, was in collision with the Dutch barge "Marjo R" on the Rhine at river km 752 near Düsseldorf. Three passengers were injured and taken to hospital by the fire brigade Meerbusch, 10 more were treated on scene. Aboard were 180 passengers and a crew of 50. Several rescue boats and up to 50 rescue Forces were alerted as well as the fire boat from Krefeld. The "Arosa Aqua“ proceeded river upstream to the pier in Schnellenburg, escorted by the fire boat. It continued the cruise schedule to Breisach on Aug 19 from Colonia after repairs. The fire rescue investigated the bow damage. The foreship was severely damaged, but the ship had no water ingress and no loss of oil. The barge which was loaded with corn was disabled at river km 754 with water ingress and severe bow damage. She was stabilized with pumps, but spilt some oil. The ship was then taken to the port of Neuss, escorted by fire boats. Also the police boat "Viking 2" was on site. The collision was possibly caused by a bow thruster damage of the "Marjo R".
