Passenger who broke coronavirus rules kicked from board

Thu Oct 22 21:01:47 CEST 2020 Timsen

During a shore excursion organized by AIDA Cruises in Catania on Oct 20, a guest from the 'AIDAblu' left his travel group, violating the line’s measures for health protection and mitigation. He was not allowed to reboard, and AIDA helped organize his trip home. The incident occurred during the first cruise of the ship since the lockdown started in March. “As part of AIDA’s enhanced health and safety protocols to protect our guests, crew, and the communities we visit, only AIDA-organized shore excursions are possible for guests wishing to disembark at ports of call. All guests are made aware of this protocol before the cruise and again before their shore excursion starts,” the line said in a statement.

Now 12 crew members tested positive for COVID-19

Fri Aug 07 11:19:30 CEST 2020 Timsen

On Aug 6 AIDA confirmed another positive test for COVID-19 among the 750 crew members aboard the 'AIDABlu' and 'AIDAMar' in Rostock, bringing the total number of infected to 12. All of them were from Southeast Asia and had arrived at the Laage Airport two weeks ago. All infected were disembarked and quarantined outside of Rostock. Two of them had to be treated in hospital for symptoms.

10 new crew members tested positive for COVID 19

Fri Jul 24 13:25:06 CEST 2020 Timsen

On July 27, ten Philippinos and Indonesians who had arrived at the airport Rostock-Lage to staff the 'Aidablu' and 'Aidamar' were tested positive for the corona virus, the health office of Rostock reported. The detection of these infections was a result of the company's preventive measures in preparation for the restart of cruises. They already underwent a Covid 19 test procedure before traveling to Rostock. But as the results were all negative, the crew members were given permission to enter Germany. However, they were obliged to undergo another test when they arrived on July 21. Aida Cruises originally planned to resume operations from Hamburg on Aug 5, subject to restrictions such as an adjusted capacity limit and a lack of shore leave. The company also planned tours from Warnemünde and Kiel for a later period. So far it was unclear whether they will take place as planned.
