Man went missing, body recovered during search in the North Sea
A body has been recovered in the search for a man fallen overboard from the ' Ambition' in the North Sea off the east coast of Scotland on Aug 21. The man was reported missing at 08:35 a.m. about 36 nautical miles from Arbroath. Coastguard aircraft from as Prestwick and Carlisle were scrambled to assist in the search alongside a commercial search and rescue helicopter. Lifeboat crews from Anstruther and Broughty Ferry and Coastguard teams from Dundee, Arbroath and St Andrews also joined the SAR operation. The ship was on its return journey to Dundee from a solar eclipse cruise, with stops in Iceland and the Faroe Islands. It docked in Lerwick before returning to Dundee on Aug 21. The passenger's luggage was still onboard and his bed had not been slept in. A formal identification was still to take place, but the missing man's family had been informed. Those onboard were initially delayed from being allowed to leave the ship, but were eventually permitted to disembark at about 11:30 a.m. The 'Ambition' left Dundee for Newcastle on the evening. The death of the man was not being treated as suspicious, police have confirmed.
21 people isolated on board with gastroenteritis
21 people with common gastroenteritis were isolated on the 'Ambition' following the established health protocols, when the cruise ship arrived in A Coruña on May 16 at 09:30 a.m. At 10:20 a.m., the Port Health Authority boarded the ship to carry out the corresponding inspection and assess the current incidence of the virus in order to make a decision. After approximately an hour of inspection and after analysing the situation of the passengers and crew, the Port Health Authority authorised the disembarkation of thre rest of the passengers after confirming that the corresponding public health and safety conditions were met.. The gastroenteritis had affected dozens of passengers and some of the crew. The ship had departed from Bordeaux. At around 8:00 p.m., it was due depart for Gijón, where it was scheduled to arrive on May 17, and will then continue its journey to Bilbao.
Lockdown order lifted - cruise ship left Bordeaux
The 'Ambition' has had a French lockdown order lifted. All 1,701 people aboard the ship were prevented from disembarking for more than 24 hours after it docked in Bordeaux on May 12, after one person died of a heart attack and dozens became ill with a vomiting virus. His death appeared to be unrelated to the norovirus outbreak, health authorities said. The local authorities allowed asymptomatic people to disembark on the afternoon of May 13, while those who had been infected were ordered to remain onboard in isolation. 48 passengers and one crew member had active cases of gastrointestinal illness. There were a total of 1,187 passengers and 514 crew members onboard. Samples from those who were ill were tested at a local hospital in Bordeaux. The ship had set sail from Belfast on May 8 and called at Liverpool a day later, for a 14-night voyage to France and Spain. On May 15 at 5.30 a.m. it finally left the port of Bordeaux, en rute to Ferrol with an ETA as of May 16.
