48 refugees still remaining on cruise ship

Fri Mar 24 12:27:13 CET 2023 Timsen

48 Ukrainian refugees were remaining on the 'Ambition' in Glasgow, and plans are in place to accommodate them all. The cruise ship is set to leave the city at the end of March, and refugees have been moving out, with many settled in neighbouring local authorities. It has housed around 1,200 Ukrainians since September 2022, but the Scottish Government’s contract for the ship ends on March 31. Members of Glasgow’s Integration Board, which runs health and social care services, were told only 57 Ukrainians remained on board on March 23, and a council spokeswoman said the figure is now down to 48. Plans for all those still on board were in place. Some refugees will move in with host families, some have found their own accommodation, whether private rent or via housing associations, and others have returned to Ukraine. The government and council were working intensively to support the remaining guests on board to make an informed decision about their onward accommodation, which may include a hosted arrangement, social housing or alternative welcome accommodation. Where possible the matching team will seek to match people to accommodation that meets their needs but recognises that there are housing pressures within the Glasgow area. The staff had been working to make sure that stay on the cruise ship was as short as it possibly could be. Plans for all of those people are in place.

1200 Ukrainian refugees to be re-housed from cruise ship

Fri Mar 17 11:28:04 CET 2023 Timsen

1200 Ukrainians refugees, housed on the 'Ambition' in Glasgow. are set to be rehomed across Scotland when the ship's contract ends on March 31, 2023. The Scottish Government was working intensively with the Glasgow City Council to find homes for all refugees. However, a housing shortage in Glasgow means there are not enough homes in the city to accommodate all of them, with the government saying they will attempt to find housing that meets their needs. Everyone on board will be made an offer of onward accommodation and will have access to the support they need to build a home in Scotland for as long as they need it. The Glasgow City Council leader expeted that given the scale of demand for accommodation and the Scottish wide nature of the Super Sponsor Scheme it is likely that Ukrainian Displaced Persons will be required to locate to other local authority areas.

Ukrainian refugee ship closer to full capacity

Mon Nov 28 18:33:03 CET 2022 Timsen

Glasgow’s Ukrainian refugee ship Ambition is getting closer to full capacity with about 1,120 people currently on board. The Scottish Government has chartered the vessel, docked at the Clyde in Govan, to offer temporary accommodation for people fleeing the Russian invasion. They are due to be placed in suitable longer-term accommodation with host families or other housing. People living on MS Ambition have access to restaurants, shops, child play areas an other facilities. The ship arrived in Scotland in Septembe, joining another vessel, the 'Victoria', which is a temporary home to Ukrainians in Leith, Edinburgh.
