General cargo ship Amur-2505 runs aground on Volga river

Wed Oct 26 09:13:10 CEST 2016 arnekiel

The general cargo ship Amur-2505 ran aground on 2837-kilometer mark on Volga river on Oct 24, 2016. The vessel, carrying 2,110 tons of carbamide, was en route from Turkmenistan to Rostov-on-Don, but after engine failure left the fairway and hardly stuck into a mud shallow. The crew made several attempts to refloat the cargo ship by own power, but they failed and was requested assistance from the local authorities. At the scene of grounding was send tug, which should tow the ship to safe depth. The inspection showed that there were no underwater damages of the cargo vessel, but salvage is not yet started. The investigation for the root cause of the accident is underway, but there is no other information available. The traffic at the area was not affected by the grounding. There were no injured people and no water pollution. The cargo of carbamide, or also known as urea, is not a dangerous material and non-toxic. However large concentration in the water might cause pollution and affect the wildlife. http://www.maritimeherald.com/2016/general-cargo-ship-amur-2505-ran-aground-on-volga-river/
