German passenger went missing

Fri Mar 29 22:13:04 CET 2024 Timsen

A German passenger on the 'Aranui' most likely fell overboard in early on March 27, 2025, between Bora Bora and Papeete. The searches undertaken yielded nothing. The 86-year-old tourist fell into the sea between the evening and the next morning. He was reportedly seen after dinner on March 26, then by a crew member, in the night at around 4:30 a.m. His disappearance was noted in the morning of March 27, when the ship arrived at the port of Papeete. The JRCC carried out searches off the coast of Moorea, which proved unsuccessful, and which were stopped in the late afternoon of March 28.

Corona case on combi ship

Mon Oct 19 20:40:50 CEST 2020 Timsen

On Oct 18, 2020, the municipality of Hiva Oa in the Marquesas Islands reported that one crew member had tested positive for Covid-19 on board the 'Aranui 5'. The man was placed under observation and in isolation with two other contact cases before all were disembarked on Hiva Oa at the request of the health surveillance office. They will remain under observation ashore, in particular so as not to risk infecting other people on board the ship. The freight crew was not in contact with the passengers. Thus, the ship's personnel was able to unload the cargoon Oct 18 without posing a risk to the population.

Ship to set sail for a supply trip only

Wed Sep 30 10:53:20 CEST 2020 Timsen

After eight crew members of the 'Aranui 5' were tested positive for Covid-19, the ship's 79 passengers have been disembarked and repatriated with no infections reported. The ship was expected to resume sailing from Papeete on Sep 30 with 1,400 tonnes of goods and 200 m3 of diesel to be delivered to the Marquesas. One of the most complex aspects in this situation was to be able to find replacements for the crew members who have tested positive in order to get a complete crew of 37.
