Tanker detained for safety defiencies
The "Milagress", being loaded with palm oil, was detained in the port of Naples due to a malfunctioning of the fire protection systems on Dec 27 by officers of the Coast Guard of Naples in the frame of a Port State Control. The Rear Admiral Arturo Faraone issued a detention order against the ship following a detailed inspection. The closing valves in the event of a fire in the engine room were out of order due to lack of maintenance. Furthermore there was a lack of familiarity by the crew with the various tasks assigned in the event of a fire on board. The ship had arrived from Istanbul in the morning and remained berthed at theFlavio Gioia Container Terminal.
