Cargo ship sank off Masalembu

On Dec 10, 2024, at 1.10 a.m. the KM. 'Bahtera Mega', with 21 crew members on board, sank in the waters of Masalembu, en route from Surabaya, Tanjung Perak, to Tanjung Selor, in pos. 05°15.05"S - 114°51.09" E. The KPLP Unit of Port Authority Office Class III Masalembu was notified by the KSU Tanjung Perak and the agent of PT Surya Pertama Timur. After receiving the report of the sinking, the KPLP coordinated with relevant authorities. All crew memberswere safely rescued by the tug 'Osana 99' and brought to Keramian Island. KPLP Wilker Keramian personnel then took action to evacuate the crew to the Passenger Terminal at UPP Keramian, Wilker UPP Masalembu. The KPLP and related authorities were conducting further investigations into the cause of the sinking.
