Avocados and banana drifting on Kattegat beaches

Thu Mar 29 16:09:22 CEST 2018 Timsen

On March 29 both the "BBC Neptune" and the "Delphis Gdanks" remained at anchor in the Great Belt near Kalundborg. The salvage ship "Mira A" (IMO: 9099171) went alongside the "BBC Neptune" in order to remove the debris of two Hapag Lloyd containers hanging over the damaged port side which had fallen onto its deck from the container ship. The contents of these containers meanwhile drifted ashore in the surroundings. Containers as well as avocados and bananas have been floating around in the northern part of the Great Belt since the collision. The fruits which were drifting in the Kattegat started to come ashore at the beaches of Samsø on March 28. The three drifting containers have meanwhile been salvaged, two remained on the bottom. The Maritime Accident Investigation Board ws still collecting data to find out the cause of the accident which may take months. On March 30 both ships left their anchorages with the "Delphis Gdansk" heading to St. Petersburg, ETA Apr 2, and the "BBC Neptune" sailing to Bremerhaven, ETA Apr 1.
