Arrested ship auctioned and being recycled
The 'Boras', which was arrested by the court at Kartal, Turkey since April 13, 2016, due to unpaid bank credits together with crew wages, was sold at an auction by local judicial sale office together with harbour Master at Tuzla, Turkey on Dec 20, 2021. The vessel's re-floating operation and repairs were cancelled by the buyer company due to the high budget. Subsequently, the breaking process commenced and further permission has been granted from the environmental office. The recycling process has commenced by an appointed company at Kartal.
Laid up ships adrift off Tuzla
On June 16, 2021, the Turkish roro ferry 'Hasan Şişik' (IMO: 7811446), which was anchored in the sea area of Kartal, broke lose from its moorings in a Southwest storm and drifted onto the 'Boras' (IMO: 8202963), which was laid up too and had already drifted aground. The tug 'Kurtarma 2' and the lifeboat 'Kiyem 2' were immediately sent to the scene by the Coastal Safety Direction and pulled the roro ferry back to the Tuzla anchorage. The ship has been waiting for two months to go for maintenance. Damage was estimated to be 200-300.000 dollars by the owner. Grounded ship has water ingress
The 'Boras' started listing due the bad condition of the weather on March 12. Water ingresses were noted on the starboard side ballast tanks. As a result, the vessel listed up to 15 degrees to the starboard side. The Harbour Master has issued a deadline to the owner for the removal of the vessel.
