Laid up ships adrift off Tuzla
On June 16, 2021, the Turkish roro ferry 'Hasan Şişik' (IMO: 7811446), which was anchored in the sea area of Kartal, broke lose from its moorings in a Southwest storm and drifted onto the 'Boras' (IMO: 8202963), which was laid up too and had already drifted aground. The tug 'Kurtarma 2' and the lifeboat 'Kiyem 2' were immediately sent to the scene by the Coastal Safety Direction and pulled the roro ferry back to the Tuzla anchorage. The ship has been waiting for two months to go for maintenance. Damage was estimated to be 200-300.000 dollars by the owner. Arrested ship drifted aground
The 'Boras' went adrift at the Kartal Anchorage after its mooring ropes parted in adverse weather condition on Feb 9, 2021. The vessel ran aground at 9 a.m. No leaks, pollution or injury were reported due to the incident. Only a watchman was on board the vessel at the time of the accident. Serious structural damages were noted on the hull and the bottom section of the vessel which was grounded with severe list to starboard side. The Harbour Master and a state surveyors launched an investigation. The ship had been arrested at the dock at the old Kumcular repair Pier since Apr 13, 2016 and was to be sold for scrap.
