Wed Nov 12 16:14:56 CET 2014 Timsen

A longshoreman was crushed on the cargo deck of the "Botnia Seaways" under a container transporter and critically injured on Nov 12, 2014, at 11 a.m. during loading operations. The 29-year-old longshoreman was probably overlooked by the driver of a tugmaster which ranked a trailer with a heavy container on the loading deck of the ferry to the designated storage space. The dock workers was pinched with the legs and the abdomen under the container and dragged several meters. He suffered fatal injuries in the stomach and abdominal area.He was taken to the emergency room of the Central University Hospital Kiel and operated immediately. While under shock, the driver and the other members of the loading crew were supervised by members of the fire brigade and an alarmed crisis intervention team. The investigations into the cause of the accident by the water police station Kiel were going on, and the loading operation of the ship was interrupted for nearly two hours, but continued at noon. The departure to St. Petersburg in the evening was delayed.
